Financial app usage behaviour: A study based on demographic factors

The rapid growth of digital technology has led to increased use of financial applications for managing personal finances, making payments, and accessing financial services. Understanding the role of demographic factors in influencing the usage of financial apps is important for promoting inclusive digital finance. The present study aims to examine the relationship between selected demographic variables like age, gender, education, and household income and the usage of financial applications. The study is based on primary data collected through a structured questionnaire administered to respondents using financial apps. The responses were compiled and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools. A descriptive and analytical research design was adopted for the study. Since the variables considered were categorical in nature, the Chi-square test of independence was applied to test the formulated hypotheses at a 5 percent level of significance. The analysis reveals that none of the selected demographic variables show a statistically significant association with the usage of financial applications. Study also highlights several challenges that affect the effective use of these applications. Study concludes that while financial apps are widely accessible and adopted irrespective of demographic differences, addressing technical, educational, and trust-related challenges is crucial to enhance their effectiveness and promote inclusive digital financial participation across India. The results suggest that financial app adoption has become demographically neutral and is largely driven by factors such as convenience, accessibility, and ease of use rather than traditional socio-economic characteristics. This reflects a growing acceptance of digital financial tools across diverse population groups. The study contributes to existing literature by providing empirical evidence based on primary data and offers useful insights for app developers, financial institutions and policymakers to design user-friendly and inclusive digital financial solutions.
